Developing an Attitude of Gratitude – Day 451

This morning while I was studying scriptures I only got through one verse. I know that sounds lame, but I just needed to ponder that verse for the day.

“And men are instructed sufficiently that they know good from evil.” – 2 Nephi 2:5

I think we forget this truth far too often. People are calling good evil and evil good. Most days I can’t get away from it. We forget that things that lead us to Christ are good, and things that lead away from relaying on Christ are evil. We forget that the constant contention we live in, from politics to education, from family battles to struggles with co-workers lead us away from Christ. It is rather exhausting.

If only we we remembered the strength we could harness with the Light of Christ.

“For behold, the Spirit of Christ is given to every man, that he may know good from evil; wherefore, I show unto you the way to judge; for every thing which inviteth to do good, and to persuade to believe in Christ, is sent forth by the power and gift of Christ; wherefore ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of God.” – Moroni 7:16

On those overwhelming days I just need to remember “the Lord is my Light, then why should I fear…”

We all have the Light of Christ… if only we would choose to use it and cultivate it. But it IS a CHOICE!

Jesus is Light. Jesus is Life. Jesus is good. Jesus brings peace and joy to an ever darkening world. Jesus encourages and build us up.

Am I using the Light of Christ in my life? Am I embracing good or evil? What kind of music and entertainment do I enjoy? Who do I support in politics? What kind of words to I use or do I speak about others in my conversations? What am I teaching my children? What am I doing behind closed doors?

So much to ponder today… thus… only one verse.

Today I am thankful that I got to meet someone who seemed to be a solid person in the business of Broadway theatre. It was a great educational opportunity for the kids at school. I am glad I got to be a part of it.

Today I am grateful that I got to give ice cream cones to Kimber’s family. I love the looks on their faces when I showed up with treats.

Today I am grateful for Kimber who cares for our dog. We are blessed that she is not only willing, but is happy to do so.

Today I am grateful we were able to work out costume issues so that we will be prepared for our first costumed rehearsal.

Today I am grateful that my sewing skills helped me not only fix a couple costumes quickly, but made a self-conscience teen happy in the process.

I am grateful my classes are going well, despite my lack of preparation for this semester.
