Developing an Attitude of Gratitude – Day 535

I was all set to write my blog yesterday when I got a call from Lilli at 9:40… “Mom, I’m at Madrona Park and I broke my collar bone.” John and I got into the truck and drove down to the park. It was clear that she had, indeed, broken her collar bone when she fell off her long-board. It was not looking like, or in the spot it should have been. We loaded her up and headed to the ER. She was eerily calm and nauseated. We had to make a stop at home for an insurance card. For some reason, my card was not in my wallet… neither was Lilli’s card. When we got to the ER only one parent was allowed in the back with her. She wanted me to be with her. John sat in the car. The doctor was funny. So was the nurse. She was taken to e-ray rather quickly. When she got back from x-ray, the doctor let me see the results. He said it was a green stick. It didn’t look very “green stick” to me. It was open fairly far on the top but the bottom of the clavicle was still in tact. They put her in a sling, wrote an order to see an orthopedic doctor, and set us home. It was not well after 11, but she wanted Taco Bell so we stopped for a taco. However, on the way home, I noticed the truck was running funny and suddenly got very hot. I pulled over to the side of the road just as the check gauges sign came on. John called the tow truck. It was now after midnight. He also called Kimber and Ray to see if they could help get at least, Lilli and me home. The tow truck never came. Ray took a little while to get there. We were finally home and settled around 2 am. She had to sleep in the recliner because it hurts to lay down. She wanted me to sleep by her, in case she needed help during the night. I slept on the couch. She got up a couple times and I got up to help her. Then, the power went off at around 6 am. I couldn’t breath because my C-PAP stopped. Let’s just say, I am pretty tired. But I do have much to be grateful for.

Today I am grateful that Lilli will heal and we have the ability to let her lay low for the rest of the summer while her bone recovers from this trauma. I am also grateful for insurance and for a doctor that was easy to talk to… and I’m grateful he let me sneak a picture of her x-ray.

I am grateful that we have an other car to drive while we figure out what to do with the truck.

I am grateful that before all the chaos yesterday, I got to spend some time floating in the pool with Lilli and creating a fun little memory. I got a good sunburn, but it was worth it.

I am grateful that I own a second pair of glasses since my favorite pair lost it’s nose pads and I haven’t been able to get to the place the repairs them.

I am grateful that I got to go to the beach with Lilli and Jordan the day before her accident. She won’t get to play like that for 4-6 weeks. It’s a bummer, but at least we got one beach trip in before we needed to lay low for awhile.

I am grateful that John got up this morning and started into chores. I am finding that my energy is sapped.

I am grateful for my opportunity to fast… for health and for how I am feeling closer to the spirit.

I am grateful that I was able to chop veggies and meal prep yesterday afternoon and evening. I only have a little more to do… shopping for small things… and then I am ready for a healthy week. I think I will start recording meals again with pictures. I am enjoying the new motivation I am feeling by joining Eat Like a Bear and intermittent fasting.
