Theatre Thursday

Theatre Thursday – A Family Activity

This year marks the 6th year my youngest daughter has participated in Children’s Educational Theatre (CET).  CET has been good for her.  Although she has danced since she was 3 years old (learning ballet, tap, jazz, and lyrical) CET has taught her performance skills like projection and stage presence…
stage makeup skills…
more dancing skills…
and the confidence to audition for community and high school productions.
The experience has been invaluable.  She has gain great friends.  She has learned about the world in a safe environment.  She has learned to confidently express herself in an ever changing world.
This has allowed her to be a part of many productions on stage (The Sound of Music, Addams Family, The Secret Garden, Beauty and the Beast and White Christmas) and off stage (tech for Les Miserables, Oklahoma! and Willy Wonka).
This year CET gave her an awesome experience performing in Orphan Train, opening her eyes to dramatic theatre.
She comes from a legacy of performers – all of her siblings have graced the stage in one form or other.
Her oldest sister danced for many years, even teaches dance currently.  She performed in high school choirs and in a high school production of You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown.
Her second oldest sister (second from the right) was very involved in high school choirs, danced a bit, and performed in You Can’t Take it With You, The Sound of Music, Starmites, Little Shop of Horrors in high school.
Her older brother (the frog) writes his own music, performed in high school choirs, worked a few shows on tech and even performed in Honk while in high school.
Her sister closest to her in age, is a veteran of the stage.  She has performed in The Sound of Music, Cinderella, Honk, Into the Woods, The Little Mermaid, Once Upon a Mattress, The Foreigner, Oklahoma!, Beauty and the Beast, Almost Maine, Seussical the Musical, and various choirs in High school.  She has performed in The Secret Garden, Les Miserables and Addams Family in community Theatre.  She is an accomplished, award winning singer.  She is also skilled in tech theatre, working on many shows as a painter, a lighting tech or a spot light operator.
My youngest comes from a long line of siblings who have participated in the performing arts. It is a blast to make performance arts a family activity!
