Yesterday i braved Black Friday shopping and took Hannah to get shoes for her mission. I was a great opportunity to practice patients. I discovered something new… something amazing!
When you approach a situation already thinking you are going to be patient you find there isn’t much to “be patient” about!
I looked for reasons to be patient as I drove into town… traffic was busy, but drivers were fine.
I looked for reasons to be patient with my teenager as I dropped her off to go ice skating with her friend… but she was happy and pleasant and agreeable.
I looked for reasons to be patient while finding a parking spot… and the perfect spot opened up just as I pulled into the parking garage.
I looked for reasons to be patient as we walked to the store… but the light at the crosswalk seemed to go quickly as we had a pleasant conversation.
I looked for reasons to be patient as we shopped for shoes… but a funny guy dressed in a Christmas outfit helped Hannah and she found 4 pairs of mission shoes in an hour, all from the same store, AND I found a pair I liked. We only needed to go to one store! When does that happen?
I looked for reasons to practice patience as we picked up the teenagers and went to Jamba Juice… no need.
When I got home I realized that by thinking about practicing patience I accomplished my goal. That was the most pleasant shopping trip I have ever had… I really don’t like shopping, so that is saying something!
