You Are a Child of God, and Even Your Quietest Gifts Matter
Have you ever looked at someone else’s talents and wondered if you have anything special to offer? Maybe you see people who sing beautifully, speak to large audiences, create amazing things, or accomplish extraordinary goals. And then you look at your own life and think, “I don’t have gifts like that.” But here’s something worth remembering:
Not every divine gift belongs on a stage.
Some of the most meaningful gifts are expressed quietly, in ordinary moments, by people who may never receive recognition for what they do.
Heavenly Father Sees the Gifts Others May Overlook
Sometimes a gift looks like preparing a meal for someone who’s struggling. Sometimes it’s making a phone call because you felt someone needed encouragement. It’s listening without interrupting. Holding someone’s hand when words aren’t enough. Or offering a heartfelt prayer for someone who may never know you prayed for them. These things might seem small to the world.
But small doesn’t mean insignificant.
Heavenly Father sees the love behind every act of kindness. He knows the sacrifices nobody notices and the quiet ways His children care for one another. And those moments matter to Him.
You Are a Child of God, and Your Gifts Have Purpose
One of the greatest truths we can understand is that we are children of God.
We each have divine worth, and Heavenly Father has blessed us with different abilities, experiences, and opportunities to serve.
In Doctrine and Covenants 46, we’re reminded that spiritual gifts are given in different ways. We aren’t all meant to have the same gifts. Some people have the gift of teaching. Others have the gift of comforting. Some recognize when someone is lonely. Others bring peace into difficult situations or help people feel loved and accepted. Your gifts may not attract attention, but they can still answer someone’s prayer.
Heaven doesn’t measure the value of your gifts by how many people applaud.
Jesus Christ Showed Us the Power of Quiet Service
When we study the life of Jesus Christ, we see that He often ministered to people one at a time. He noticed those who were overlooked. He listened. He comforted. He healed. He showed compassion to people who needed to know they mattered. His example reminds us that making a difference doesn’t always require a crowd. Sometimes it simply requires noticing one person and responding with love. When you offer encouragement, show kindness, or quietly serve someone in need, you are following His example.
Never Underestimate the Good You Can Do
You may never know how much your kindness meant to someone. The meal you delivered may have helped a tired parent get through a difficult evening. The phone call you made may have reminded someone they weren’t forgotten. The prayer you whispered may have brought comfort in ways you cannot see. And the hand you held may have helped someone feel less alone.
Your gift doesn’t have to impress the world to bless someone’s world.
A Gentle Reminder
Today, stop measuring your gifts against someone else’s.
Instead, ask Heavenly Father:
“How can I use what You’ve given me to bless one of Your children?”
Then pay attention to the simple opportunities around you.
A meal.
A phone call.
A listening ear.
A hand held.
A prayer offered in secret.
These are not insignificant things. They are opportunities to share the love of Jesus Christ.
❤️ You are a child of God. Your quiet gifts matter. Your simple acts of love have purpose. And Heavenly Father sees the good you do, even when nobody else does.
Because sometimes the most beautiful gifts aren’t the ones that receive applause.
They’re the ones that help another child of God feel loved.
