Use One Gift

You Are a Child of God, and Your Gifts Were Meant to Bless Others

Have you ever wondered what gifts Heavenly Father has given you? Maybe you’ve spent time trying to figure out your talents, your purpose, or what makes you special. You might even look at others and think, “They seem to know exactly what they’re good at. Why can’t I figure out my gifts?”

But here’s a gentle reminder:

You don’t have to discover every gift God has given you before you begin making a difference. Sometimes all you need to do is recognize one gift and use it to bless someone.

You Are a Child of God, and You Have Something to Offer

One of the most beautiful truths of the gospel is that we are children of a loving Heavenly Father. He knows each of us personally. He knows our strengths, our struggles, our experiences, and our potential. And He has given His children different gifts.

Some people are natural teachers. Others are wonderful listeners. Some bring laughter into difficult situations, while others have a special ability to recognize when someone feels lonely or forgotten.

Your gift might be cooking, creating, encouraging, organizing, comforting, or simply helping someone feel loved. You may not even recognize it as a gift because it comes so naturally to you. But something doesn’t have to feel extraordinary to you to become a blessing to someone else.

Stop Analyzing and Start Giving

Sometimes we spend so much time trying to identify our gifts that we forget why Heavenly Father gave them to us. Our gifts aren’t just for personal recognition or achievement. They are opportunities to serve.

In Doctrine and Covenants 46, we learn that spiritual gifts are given for the benefit of God’s children. That means our gifts become especially meaningful when we use them to lift someone else. You don’t need to make a long list of everything you’re good at. You don’t need to compare yourself with anyone else. And you don’t need to wait until you feel completely confident.

Just pick one gift and put it to work.

One Gift Can Make a Difference

If you’re a good listener, call someone who needs a friend. If you enjoy cooking, prepare something for a neighbor. If you’re good at encouraging others, send a thoughtful message. If you love teaching, share something helpful with someone who wants to learn. If you naturally notice people who feel left out, invite someone into your circle. And if you’re someone who prays with faith, offer a sincere prayer for a person who needs Heavenly Father’s help. These may seem like simple things. But simple acts of kindness can become powerful expressions of God’s love.

Your Gifts Grow When You Use Them

Here’s something beautiful about our God-given gifts:

Sometimes we understand them better by using them than by thinking about them.

As we serve, we begin to recognize how Heavenly Father can work through us. We notice the joy that comes from helping someone. We discover abilities we didn’t realize we had. And we learn that our purpose isn’t always found in doing something big. Sometimes it’s found in doing one small thing with great love. Jesus Christ showed us the importance of serving individuals. He noticed people, listened to them, comforted them, and helped them feel valued. We can follow His example by using what Heavenly Father has already placed in our hands.

Today’s Challenge: Use One Gift

Don’t worry about discovering every talent you possess today.

Instead, ask yourself:

“What’s one gift Heavenly Father has given me, and who could I bless with it?”

Then do something.

Make the call.

Send the message.

Prepare the meal.

Offer encouragement.

Include someone.

Say the prayer.

You may never know the full impact of your small act of love, but that doesn’t make it any less meaningful.

You are a child of God. You have gifts, you have worth, and you have something valuable to offer.

You don’t need to use every gift today.

Just use one.

Because sometimes the best way to discover the gifts Heavenly Father has given us is to stop analyzing them and start giving them away.
