Warrior Wednesday

Choose to Rise!

I have found through my life experience that most often the battles that get to most warriors are the battles that are fought from within.

People are complicated.  Being made in the image of God is complicated… yet simple.

I read an old Cherokee story today.  It goes something like this:

One day an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.  He said, “My son, the battle is between two wolves inside all of us. One is evil.  It is lust, anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, depression, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.  The other is Good.  It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.”  The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “which wolf wins?”  The wise old Cherokee replied, “The one you feed.”

Great story!

The main message of the story it simple: I decide!  It is up to me to decide which of the two wolves I will feed.  The power is within me – the power to decide who I am; the power to control my feelings and behavior.

I am a Warrior!

I choose to feed The Good!

Every day, every situation, I have the power to decide: Which wolf will I feed today? Am I going to be true to the divinity within me or am I going to be who I am not created to be?  Am I going to let external situations control my thoughts, feelings and actions or am I going to be true the Warrior within me?

I decide.

Ok.  Some days I let the Evil wolf win.  Sometimes it is easier to blame others for my behavior rather than accepting full responsibility for what I believe, think, say and do.  I fall.  I get mad.  I see red.  Then I remember: A true Warrior gets up and fights the Good fight again… and again… and again.

It doesn’t really matter who I was yesterday.  What matters is what I choose to be now!

Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about… whether it is sin, self confidence, sadness, pride – it doesn’t matter.  It’s still their battle.  Be kind.  Be more aware.  Be more intuitive.  Be more loving.  Reach out to those who can only reach within and give them the helping hand they need to rise.  In a world marked by partisanship, divisions, conflict and chaos, do what you can to live a life of unity, peace and compassion.

Be the Warrior within!
