Developing an Attitude of Gratitude – Day 417

Today as I study various things in 1 Nephi 13 I am struck by how firm God is in honoring agency. He honors the agency of men, even if bad things will happen. He honors the agency of men who with change His word and warp the perception of others of just who God is and how He interacts with His children. He honors the agency of the children of men who would like to blur the lines of nature and divine law. He honors the agency of men who prefer to judge harshly the history of others. He allows bad things to happen to good people. He allows us all to make choices – good or bad. He allows us to suffer the consequences of those choices – sometimes intimidate and sometimes in the future. Why? Because He loves us and that love comes with the gift of agency – the ability to choose for ourselves just how close we want to stand to Him.

Now this might not seem fair. But it is. And for those moments that we need a repair, His mercy stands waiting. He has a plan that can fix hurt, pain, mis-steps, and all the other crazy things that happen in mortality. His plan is Jesus. JESUS IS THE PLAN.

I am grateful that I got to see the lights in a couple students eyes light up when they finally learned something hard. I love seeing that!

I am thankful for a pleasant conversation with my son this evening.

I am grateful for veggies and for the energy when I got home to make some homemade Thai peanut noodles and veggies. So yummy!

I am thankful that I have the means to give Lilli a little prize today. She was super excited and I am thankful.

I am grateful for John. He works hard. Everyday he finds a way to serve me and the rest of my family… even when he is tired.
