L.E.T. G.O. of Toxic Relationships *NEW POST*

Some very good advice!

By Dr. Perry, PhD

“Toxic people attach themselves like cinder blocks tied to your ankles, and then invite you for a swim in their poisoned waters.” ~John Mark Green

I would like to share with you an acronym that I created for my patients who are dealing with the effects of a toxic relationship. This acronym is a reminder to not form an attachment to an unhealthy bond by giving it your time and energy. The relationship can be a romantic one, a friendship or familial one. Through the process of therapy, my patients learn to identify these toxic relationships. They learn coping mechanisms and defense strategies. This acronym serves as a reminder for them to focus on their well being. Every moment we have the opportunity to change the direction of our lives. By reminding ourselves to L.e.t G.o of toxic relationships we give ourselves the strength to sever…

Grandpa’s Lies

I hope you all appreciate this as much as I do.

Robbie Yates's avatarRobbie Yates

My Grandpa tells me stories
I think they’re sometimes lies.
He tells me he bakes cookies
And mixes in dead flies.
He tells me he’s a psychic,
That he reads Grandma’s mind—
But “All her thoughts are empty
There’s nothing there to find!”

My Grandpa tells me stories
And lots of them aren’t true.
He told me when he was a kid
He ate a horse’s poo.
He told me he’s a ninja
And saves the world from crime
He said “I’d give more details—
But oops!
We’re out of time!

I've been thinking today how social media has made so many people "look" like their lives are perfect, like they are perfect. News flash. No one is perfect and no one has a perfect life. Today I decided to follow the counsel of President Russell M. Nelson and give up social media for 7 days.… Continue reading #bethelight – Day 210

Dear Americans, while we enjoy our Memorial Day, may we not fail to remember those whose sacrifices paid for it. Those soldiers, firefighters, police officers and others whose sacrifices have secured the lives and freedoms of Americans and non-Americans alike.

“Courage is contagious. When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others are stiffened.”

#bethelight – Day 161

I think the greatest kindness we can extend in this world is to spend time family.  That's what I did today.  I spent time chatting with McKay, Myles, Leneyah, Beckett, and Kaiden on Facetime.  I spent time chatting with my parents on the phone.  We spent time with Kimber, Ray Ben, Freya and Holland today… Continue reading #bethelight – Day 161
