This past weekend I had the pleasure of spending some time the folks of Rainbow Dance Theater. They, and the Salem Concert Band, were renters for the theater at the high school.
The band played the music and the dance company presented the ballet. The music and the ballet were inspired by the 1504 paintings of Hieronymus Bosch, The Garden of Earthly Delights.
These guys are amazing! Their strength, artistry, and passion are inspiring. They truly celebrate the human body and dance.
Seriously! Such creativity! If you get the chance to see their work, DO!
The artistic directors, Darryl Thomas and Valerie Bergman were gracious. They even invited my teenager backstage to meet them and the other dancers. She was beyond thrilled! Darryl Thomas teaches dance at WOU, right next door. He has a unique blend of athletic dance and West African styles. He creative mind is mind blowing. Valerie lends the grace of modern dance and ballet to the choreography.
Their creativity is amazing! From fiber optics to people inside balls. I learned tons from them and from their tech director. My mind is now spinning with all the possibilities of what I can try in future productions.
Check out their website! Go see one of their performances! They perform all over the world. No matter where you live, they may make a stop near you. If they do, GO SEE THEM! Click here to learn more about Rainbow Dance Theater and to check out their performance schedule.
