The stage makeup class that I help with has been exploring techniques for designing and applying fantasy stage makeup. My friend begins the unit by having the students research other fantasy makeup designs. They are assigned to collect 10 pictures that inspire them. Most of the time they choose other works of art. They have not reached the skill level yet to see inspiration in the world around them.
Then, he assigns the students to draw a face plate of the design they would like to apply. Some students are advanced and make notes as to how they intend to execute the application of the design.
They have 40 minutes to apply makeup to their partner. Some of them are getting good at their applications. There are 28 students in the class. These are my favorite designs and applications from this unit.
