Stillness Illness

I have a serious case of "stillness illness."  It is my habit to live life in a constant state of business. Work must be done.  Children must be chauffeured.  Friends and family need our attention.  Seriously.  I live a life that is a whirlwind of activity. December is no exception.  I spend my time rushing… Continue reading Stillness Illness

#bethelight – Day 40

Yesterday was a good day as I attended a fund raiser for a sick child in our community and checked in on a sick friend.  I am more and more aware of the suffering many people are experiencing.  I just need to remember that even a sandwich can make a difference. Unlocking Potential Through Theater Education

Come on powers that be! Put more performing arts in schools!

Studying theatre can be a great starting point for careers such as teaching, law, and politics, not to mention broadcasting and performing. If this is the case why are classes in the performing arts the first classes on the chopping block when budgets get tight.

Adulting 101 – Your High School Grades Matter

Oh the things you can think! Serious. A little effort takes to a long way!

wboyack's avatarResigning as the General Manager of the Universe

Nearly all high school seniors believe that they are going to college and bad grade won’t stop them.  Have you listened to the “future plans” of graduates read as they walk across the stage at graduation?  Okay.  A large majority are heading to a community college because open admissions is a “thing.”  But are they successful?  Do they complete college?

This subject has been on my mind for quit some time.

It is my observation that students who perform poorly in high school most likely will not graduate from college, may even not go beyond remedial course.  Did we really serve them well?  I believe there is a close connection between high school preparation (difficulty of classes offered and grades) and college completion.  I am not alone.  It would appear that researcher are seeing similar trends.
