Satisfaction Saturday

More Than Satisfied with doTerra PastTense

I have been having headaches.  My daughter introduced me to doTerra PastTense roll one.  I immediately fell in love! The doTerra catalog says it will help ground and balance emotions.  It is cool and refreshing as advertised.  It soothes stressful feelings and promotes a sense of calm. McKay suggested it for my headaches.  I didn't… Continue reading More Than Satisfied with doTerra PastTense

#bethelight – Day 18

Yesterday I bought pies.  I don't eat pies.  I will be spreading the joy forward and dropping a pie or two on some unsuspecting porch.  I just wanted to contribute to the fundraising happening in my school.  The fund raising continues.  Tonight is the Panther Auction, a fund raiser for sports in my school.  Choir… Continue reading #bethelight – Day 18

Family Friday

Family Comes First

I have been struggling about what to write for Family Friday this week because I didn't get any pictures and our week has been ordinary and usual.  Then it dawned on me, EVERY DAY is a family day!  Family comes first... even on busy weeks our activities reflect that family comes first. The importance of… Continue reading Family Comes First

#bethelight – Day 17

Yesterday I found it so satisfying to find people to thank, to find the unsung hero...  custodians, crosswalk lady, teachers, secretaries at school, gas station attendant.  I decided that for a larger action I would write a letter to a principle about her awesome staff.  A different school had come to use the stage at… Continue reading #bethelight – Day 17

Performing Arts Education Matters!

Still my soap box! I wish law makers, school boards, and administrators were listening!

wboyack's avatarResigning as the General Manager of the Universe

I am passionate about education.  I believe that the main mission of education should be to spark in students a desire to be a life-long-learner.  Education is more than English, science and math.  Education needs to inspire students to educated themselves – ongoing, voluntary and self-motivated.  Students who understand how to learn and how to apply what they learn, students who love to learn and who are motivated to learn for themselves enhance social skills, become active citizens, develop personally, and become self-sustainable and employable.

Education must think “outside the box” to create life-long-learners.  Education curriculum needs to include the arts – music, art, drama and dance. The benefits including  these subjects in course catalogs far out weighs the costs of providing them.  The benefits of a fine arts education include better grades, higher standardized test scores and higher educational attainment, attending school more regularly and a higher self-concept.  The…

#bethegood – Day 16

Yesterday I gave out compliments all day.  It was fun!  However, I did notice that many people were skeptical of my sincerity.  It's like they never hear a compliment so when they do hear one they think the person giving a compliment is after something.  I made an effort to ensure that I was sincere. … Continue reading #bethegood – Day 16

Slow Cooker Vegetarian Vegetable Soup

Looks good! I may need to give this a try!

koolaidmoms's avatarWhat's for Dinner Moms?

This is my third slow cooker recipe in the past few days. My slow cooker is getting a workout while we are getting ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I have lots of errands to run and the kids have tons of concert, recitals, classes, and parties to attend so I am constantly in my car. I need to use my slow cooker so that when we get home I know there is something hot to feed everyone (in shifts if we need to).

I had this soup going and bread in the bread-maker so that when my son finished his Latin class he could have dinner.  We would not be able to eat for another hour or so but everyone had a delicious hot meal.

Verdict:

My son was NOT pleased with the soup. He is not a fan of broth based soups, garbanzo beans, and vegetarian food in general…

A Warrior Develops Inner Peace

wboyack's avatarResigning as the General Manager of the Universe

I will admit.  I have lived many years not understanding that inner peace is my choice.

“Peace of mind is not the absence of conflict from life, but the ability to cope with it.” – Unknown

A Warrior develops inner peace.

I’ve had my share of ups and downs, disappointment and sadness. Perhaps I didn’t believe that peace was possible… at least not in this life.  Peace was something for someone else.  Not me.  I think I was stuck.  I was stuck in the thinking that peace was not possible when there seems to be some drama, some problem, some stress hanging around.  All the negative stuff in the world, in the news, in the community seemed overwhelming.

I found my heart grieving.

I found it hard to control how I felt, to control my own emotional state.

I really did want to release all conflict in my life.  I…

Adulting 101

wboyack's avatarResigning as the General Manager of the Universe

I am afraid that we, as adults, have not fully prepared our teens to be adults.  I am more and more aware the we have not created Generation XYZ.  We have created Generation Lacking.  I’m not talking about lacking in material things.  In fact, having so many material things has contributed to a lack of real life skills… skills that could save them in adulthood, even from a impending Zombie invasion.

Some to the most popular television series for young adults and teens today focus on what would happen if society were to face utter destruction. Zombies.  How would you survive if you had to hunt or gather or grow your own food, find fresh water, live without electricity or all your electronic devises?  I know I would be fine.  I don’t mean to brag, but I’ve got skills.  The truth is that most of the kids who love these…
